Welcome to the Countryside!

We're lucky to be in such a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by greenery and small farms, at around 520m above sea level. That said, it's completely normal in Madeira for countryside homes to have the occasional little visitor—like ants, lizards and other insects—especially in warmer or more humid weather.

• Ant traps and insect spray
• Dehumidifiers to reduce moisture in the air

•  Store any sweet food in the fridge or in sealed containers (you’ll find plenty of containers with lids, in the cupboards).
• Feel free to run the air conditioning in dry mode now and then, especially in winter when the windows stay closed. It helps control humidity and keeps everything feeling clean and fresh.
• Please don’t feed the stray cats. They're curious but can become a nuisance—rifling through rubbish and trying to sneak indoors.
